Ten Great Songs in Gaming
Let’s take a look at some amazing video game music.

If you know me, you probably know that I really enjoy video game music. In fact, it’s one of the things I like most about gaming. Imagine my disappointment when I learned it was an afterthought for most game developers. This is definitely not always true, however- I found this evident when Playtonic Games released a couple of tracks off Yooka-Laylee on announcement day. Let’s celebrate the games that have amazing music by looking at ten fantastic tracks (max one per franchise) that probably don’t get enough recognition.(Disclaimer One- There’s no particular order for these.) (Disclaimer Two- These were uploaded individually by fans and not by 641media.)
1- Animal Crossing New Leaf: Town Hall
New Leaf has incredible music. The installment’s consistent music quality is even more impressive when you realize there were three composers- Manaka Kataoka, Atsuko Asahi and Kazumi Totaka. The Town Hall track is my favourite in the game as it’s cheerful and fits the mood of the setting well. Great track, and I highly recommend seeking out the rest of the OST.
2- Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom: Industrial Park
Talk about atmosphere. The level around this song is a boss- Robo-Patrick. There’s a sense of uneasiness to the track, as you’re facing a version of a friend that isn’t a friend. It fits the setting well, and even alone it’s really entertaining.
3- Donkey Kong Country Returns: Gear Getaway
I just find this song an instant classic. Therefore, it’s now law that any game using mine carts must use this song. (Not really.) The DKC series has a collection of great OST’s, and I highly recommend checking them out.
4- LittleBigPlanet 3 (DLC)- A Little Knight
5- Pac-Man World 2: Blade Mountain
It’s no secret I adore this soundtrack. Here’s my favourite of the bunch.
6- Pokemon Black and White 2: Team Plasma Battle
This is a fantastic theme for an evil team. Not really a whole lot more to say- it’s energetic, and I like it a lot.
7- Cars: The Video Game: Radiator Springs Theme
I think this is a great example of a song used well in two situations. These two are as a licensed game for a Pixar movie, and as a hub world song. I believe it’s a catchy theme that suits the IP well.
8- Klonoa- Door to Phantomile: The Windmill Song
I haven’t played Klonoa: Door to Phantomile yet, but I really want to now. This track is amazing.
9- Skylanders Giants: Title Screen
I’m not a big fan of the Skylanders IP. I’d go into why, but I don’t have a lot to add to the conversation. However, this theme is really great, and I think it’s up there with the best title themes I’ve heard.
10- Hyrule Warriors: Solidus Cave
Anything with the Legend of Zelda IP, I expect great music from. I don’t think that’s unfair, given the series history. This is a great reason why I’ve come to expect that high quality.
