My Thoughts on the Punishment for Alex Cora and the Houston Astros
An brand new on-field cheating scandal now has a punishment attached
UPDATE: Per Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Houston Astros have fired manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow.
After a few months of curiosity (from myself and almost everyone in the baseball community) over what kind of discipline the Astros would receive for their alleged cheating in 2017, MLB has officially spoken.
The Context
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported MLB’s investigative statement on Twitter earlier today:
Per The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich, Astros manager AJ Hinch and GM Jeff Luhnow will both be suspended for the entirety of the 2020 season. The team will also have to pay a fine of $5 million and give up their 1st and 2nd round draft picks in each of the next two seasons.
A potential upcoming punishment for current Red Sox manager and 2017 Astros bench coach Alex Cora is yet to be publicly announced.

It’s a deeply complicated situation, to be sure, and the public may (or may not, to be perfectly honest) get more answers down the line.
Now that there are two potentially limited-time managerial positions open though, you have to wonder who’s going to fill those spots as well.
